I encouter from time to time situation where I can not delete file
holder. The following is the one just happened.

I downloaded a zip file on the desktop, created a holder in D: drive,
moved the zip file to it, and unzipped the zip file. In the unzipping
process a new sub-holder was automatically created and extracted files
were saved in that sub-holder.

Then, I could delete the zip file, all extracted files, but could not
delete the automatically created sub-holder.

Could anyone help me understand why and how to delete it?

Is the holder (sic) completely empty? Is the read-only bit set?

Please, when posting, try and use the right terminologies, even if you are a
novice you should know that its a folder or directory, not 'holder'.

Try taking ownwership of the folder:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421

If that does not work, boot into safe mode then try deleting it.

If that does not work, try this free recomendation by John Inzer:

Unlocker

You might also try (free for personal use):

The folder no longer there. My guess is that the folder was deleted
despite of the error message and that the folder did not dissappear
right after so that I attempted to delete it again.
