Use 64 bit Vista. Make sure your BIOS has the "Memory Remapping" feature
enabled.

32 bit Vista will not use more than about 3.2 GB regardless of what you do.

some people report seeing windows tell the they have 3.5
http://www.google.com/search?q=3.5+g...x=&startPage=1

SP1 should make vista show 4 gigs

also with pae it should see the 4 gigs as I explained in another post

SP1 makes Vista REPORT 4 GB, it will NOT USE 4 GB.

> also with pae it should see the 4 gigs as I explained in another post

As you explained wrong in another post. Vista does NOT use PAE to get 36
bit addressing - neither does XP SP2. XP prior to SP2 did. 32 bit
Windows Server OSes still do this. 32 bit Windows Client OSes no longer
do.

If you need 4 GB (or more) physical RAM in Client Windows, you need 64 bit.

you have reading comprehension problems sir?

where did I say it would "use" 4?

I said nothing about 36 bit crap... you said that!

You're still wrong, even after back pedaling. PAE won't make Vista "see" 4
GB either. What is the point of "seeing" 4 GB if it can't be USED?

32 bit Vista is limited to USING around 3.2 - 3.5 GB physical RAM, depending
on your MB and installed hardware. Nothing you can do will change this.

Now, it appears that with SP1, 32 bit Vista will "report" that 4 GB RAM is
installed, instead of the 3.2 - 3.5 GB. But it still won't USE more than
the 3.2 - 3.5 GB. 32 bit Vista is limited to 32 bits of address space.
The PAE 36 bit hack has been intentionally disabled on 32 bit Vista to
prevent the driver issues that result from using PAE.

If you need 4 GB (or more) RAM to be actually USED - not just "seen" - then
you need 64 bit Vista.

End of story.

Bob, he is a smacktard like Alias, ad nauseam. More than likely has no
experience, and tries to make people think he knows what he is talking
about.

I dont like it when people say this or that is not possible... grrrrrr

it IS possible using PAE that vista 32 bit supports!

SEE HERE http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929605

Here's the catch: applications have to be written specifically to take
advantage of PAE, and the only applications that do that are very
specialized tools or server applications like SQL Server, which don't
typically require that much RAM when running on a desktop OS. So, PAE won't
make your Photoshop or video editing app any faster, and it isn't nearly as
useful as it sounds. While 64-bit Windows Vista isn't perfect, it will give
you access to your full address space, and you're bound to have far fewer
application compatibility problems (and get more out of your memory) than
you would with 32-bit Linux and PAE.

<END QUOTE>

Again, Vista 32 DOES NOT support PAE!
