Enabling UAC is logging me off at startup

I have been having problems with the control panel; basically the uninstall
programs panel is corrupted and someone told me to re-enable the UAC under
my profile. Well, as soon as I re-enabled it I could not log on to Windows!
The computer restarted and on the log on screen when I clicked on my name
and put in the password, windows started logging on normally (saw the
welcome sign) ... and immediately the logging off message appeared. I tried
a couple of times with the same results. Fortunately I had created a restore
point prior to the change and I was able to go back. How can I fix this UAC
problem? Maybe this is related to my control panel issue.
Thank you for any suggestions.
