Hi,

I have a WSUS install on Windows 2000 w/ IIS5, I'm using the latest versions
of .NET framework, MSDE, and BITS, and whenever I attempt to save my synch
settings I get the dreaded "The encryption key cannot be retrieved" error. I
looked in the other posts and on wsuswiki.com and the implicaiton is that the
account that associated with the IIS v-dir WSUSadmin does not have NTFS
permissions to the root of the system drive. The WSUS installer set the v-dir
to "integrated", so the my user account is the one at stake. I am without
question a local admin and have FC to the entire system drive. Any help /
insight is greatly appreciated.

Mike,

There is a private newsgroup for WSUS that can be accessed from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserv...newsgroup.mspx
That would be the best place to find an answer to the issue.

Thanks MowGreen,

I discovered and corrected an NTFS permissions issue on my WSUS server, so
it's synchronizing as we speak. Thanks very for the referral to the
newsgroup, too.
