Check for more detail in your WindowsUpdate.log?
This is an install? Check for more detail in its log.
Do a search of all files changed on the date of the attempt
and sort them by Date modified if you're not sure what the name
of the log should be.
Always disclose the OS and maintenance level of the affected machine.
E.g. if XP Pro
bitsadmin /wrap /monitor /allusers
might give you a different perspective too (e.g. contradict or confirm
what the log messages are saying)
BTW I have seen some cases (not associated with WU downloads)
where an install program is seen calculating a negative amount of space.
If this signed value was later treated as an equivalent unsigned value
you might have an explanation for your symptom. Unfortunately each time
I've looked at the numbers they don't work out with such a simple explanation.
BTW you may be posting in the wrong newsgroup.
There is a separate newsgroup for WSUS now.
