Enterprise and playing DVDs

It appears that Windows Media Player that comes with Vista Enterprise does
not include the ability to play DVDs. When I try it says that no codec is
installed. Can anyone suggest what I need to download, preferably for free,
to either get WMP to play DVDs, or a free player that's not too obnoxious
with ads. I tried installing the K-Lite Standard Codec pack, but either I
did it wrong or it isn't enough.

Thanks
Brian

If its the ability to play DVDs where the audio is in AC3 format (very
common), I like AC3Filter (http://ac3filter.net/projects/ac3filter).

I like Media Player Classic for playing DVDs. You still need the right
codecs, though. (http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/).

Another possibility is VLC Media Player (http://www.videolan.org/). It
includes a bundle of codecs and will probably play your DVD right out
of the "box".

I've never used K-Lite.

That was apparently created 785 days ago. Is it still true?

VideoLAN Releases Security Advisory for VLC Media Player
added April 22, 2010 at 08:20 am

VideoLAN has released a security advisory to address multiple vulnerabilities in VLC Media
Player. These vulnerabilities may allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code or cause a
denial-of-service condition.

US-CERT encourages users and administrators to review VideoLAN security advisory
VideoLAN-SA-1003 and apply any necessary updates or workarounds to help mitigate the
risks.

Hmmm... They said way back on April 19 that the fix is in version
1.0.6... but the only version they offer for download is ver. 1.0.5.

I guess they're not all that much in a hurry to patch their security
hole.

Good thing I never use VLC.

Goodie for you, but where is there the advertised stable, final release
that is not a security risk?
