Check your time and date and also your Internet Time Zone and Internet Time.

To do this, double click on the clock/time in the Notification area - on the right side

When all is updated, try WU again.

I have the same problem. I went through, made sure the date and time were
set correctly. There was something on Microsoft about running regsvr32
SOFTPUB.dll so I did that too. Nothing I've tried seems to work. Any other
suggestions?

Did you check IE as per the article posted ?
http://www.updatexp.com/0x80072f8f.html
What causes Error 0x80072f8f

Do you have any Web accelerator programs?

Have you checked that your Firewall and/or antivirus software is not
stopping Windows update?

0x80072F8F -2147012721
ERROR_INTERNET_SECURE_FAILURE ErrorClockWrong
One or more errors were found in the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate
sent by the server.

Check this article
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=326253
You cannot view updates on the Windows Update site using secure socket layer

Have you cleaned out your cookies, history, temporary internet files
including all offline content. Perform a disk clean up. Can't hurt.
reboot.
