Status Monitor 3 is Version 3 of Epson's Status Monitor. It monitors the
printer, ink levels, etc... Check the Epson website for a Vista compatible
version (look under drivers for your printer,) however, I don't believe on
exists...

The version you have is NOT compatible with Vista, uninstall it, even if you
can't find a Vista compatible version...

What is the exact Epson printer you have?
My experience with my Epson Stylus Photo 895 has been good.
Vista looked for and found a Vista compatible driver.
Your driver is for WinXP or earlier. (Actually it was never recognised
by MS and gave all kinds of problems in XP for me)

I found the printer under Printers in Control Panel. I looked
up properties and this is what my dialog box gave me

"Epson Color Printing System
Version 1.00(M)
Copyright (C) 2006 Seiko etc."

I printed out a small piece of text, and found my new driver
has access to the functions that your old Status Monitor had,
such as Maintenance/Nozzle Check, etc.

Perhaps you should try to make Vista reinstall your Printer.
If you used an Epson Installation disc before, then leave it
and let Vista find you your new driver.

Cheers,
Miles

Like the other guys said check for a driver, I have a Epson RX580 that I
have networked with 2 Vista puters and 2 XP puters and everything works fine
even thru the network, I used the drivers that came with the
printer/scanner. And its fairly new.

I'm not sure what printer the OP has, but mine is an Epson Stylus Photo
785EPX. I don't have any issues with the driver either, however I know that
the "Status Monitor" program itself does not work in Vista... The driver
provides the ink level monitoring without the Status Monitor, so it's not
needed anyway...

With my printer, I had to download updates through Windows Update in order
to get the printer to function, it wasn't just a matter of letting windows
check online for the proper driver...
