Depending on how many files you really need to erase you could go for a
freeware application called Eraser (
http://www.heidi.ie/node/6). The default
erase is Gutman 35 (overwriting data 35 times). Alternatively you can create
a Nuke Boot Disk using either a floppy disk or a USB flash device. You
create the Nuke disk after installing Eraser by going to Start>All
Programs>Eraser>Create Nuke Boot Disk.
I have used it for many years now, not only for erasing individual files
(you can do this by right clicking on a file you want to remove and
selecting Erase from the drop down menu), but also for erasing unused space
(start>computer>right click on the drive you want to erase used space and
select Erase Unused Space)
