err0r 0x80004005

torgier : I tried your suggestion and it seemed to work for the first
windows update but i am back to the same message again...I am running windows
xp home edition...it downloads but will not install anything and then I see
this message saying "windows update page" has an error ...0x80004005

Torgier : It seems to be working now...It does take a long time to install
but when i go to Updates the next day, it shows in my "Installation file"
thats its done its job..but I cannot install windows xp sp2...I had it before
I had to do the complete recovery but now I can't seem to get ..and when I
try to set the "automatic Updates" it won't let me complete...i only get the
"hourglass" I cannot click OK...but I guess I can live with that...thanks

To whom is getting 0x80004005 when upgrading XP SP2.

Goto Control pannel/Software,and uninstall the KB896688 Security Update.
Then try to install SP2.
When successfull, you may run the upgrade software to finish the actual
upgrading process.
