Erratic behavior of mouse

I recently installed an older verison of microsoft cordless wheel mouse
application. I had some problems the mouse so I uninstalled the application.
Now my cursor's behavior is strange and out of control. It selects items,
close's windows, resize's them, it seems to have a life of it's own.
Sometimes I can just touch my mouse slightly and it will select whatever is
close by the cursor. I'm forced to try and find a safe place off the monitor
to let it rest. The cursor selets whatever it goes over or points to. How can
I solve this problem?

You might check your "mouse Properties" to see if the "snap to" feature is
selected. I use a corded optical mouse and the snap to feature can react this
way.
Snap to: Automatically moves pointer to the default button in a dialog box.
[look in pointer options or similar wording]. I can also adjust pointer speed
and visibility features.

I am having this same problem. I have a corded optical mouse and the snap to
feature is not selected but my screen consistantly changes as I pass the
mouse pointer over the screen. No system to it. It' very eratic. My
pointer speed is set at about the half way mark and the "enhance precision"
box is selected. Any suggestions. This is a mouse that I lwas previously
using with a Windows 98 system. I am now on Windows XP and this problem has
surfaced.

"buzz" and "Lord Satyriasis",

I am sorry that you are hitting this issue. This does not seem like a
Windows Update problem. Perhaps these other newsgroups would be more
helpful:

microsoft.public.windowsxp.general
microsoft.public.windowsxp.hardware
microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support
microsoft.public.win2000.hardware

Sincerely,

This is the Windows Update newsgroup. It deals with issues with Windows
updates, not mouse behavior. Post the issue to a hardware newsgroup:

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...owsxp.hardware

Clicking that link will open Outlook Express and send you to the proper NG.
