Error 0x0000007E on windows update

Thanks in advance for any help on resolving this error triggered by the
latest Windows Update.
The log shows the four fixes downloaded successfully. When prompted to
restart, I get an error
*** STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005,0xFC69CBDF, 0xFC90F874,0xFC90F570)

The stop error "STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005,0xFC69CBDF,
0xFC90F874,0xFC90F570)" mentioned can be caused due to various
hardware/software problems. I am attaching a knowledge base article which
