Hello,

Windows Update Custom Install fails with the following message:

Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested
page.

The error number is 0xC80003FB.

Can anyone tell me what this is? I have Windows XP professional.

1) Has SP2 been applied, Ed ?

2) What is the installed antivirus/security suite ?

You can rename DataStore.edb to DataStore.edb.old to see if that
resolves the issue:

1) Go to Start > Run > type in

net stop wuauserv
Click OK or press Enter
If the BITS service has started you must stop it, too.

net stop bits

2) Navigate to DataStore.edb and rename it.
To view DataStore.edb you'll need to show hidden files, folders, and
system files first:

3) Restart the system and see if updates install now.

IF the system can now update then the issue was the datastore.

Suggest you configure the installed AV to *not* scan nor monitor this file

State the full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP1).

Have you recently reinstalled WinXP? If so, why & how did you do it?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)?

Has a Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine
(e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it and
which may have been reinstalled, but invalid, when you reinstalled WinXP)?
