Just installed Windows Live Mail 12.0.1606 but it's not working - unable to
send or receive messages. On first startup, it asked for e-mail address,
password and display name. Then error 0x80004005. All my folders/mails were
not even downloaded yet and pressing the download button gave the same error.

Tried uninstall (plus deleting the message store manually) and reinstall but
to no avail... Help?

This is the full error messages:

"Unable to send or receive messages for the Hotmail account. To send and
receive messages in your Hotmail account, go to http://hotmail.live.com on
the Web, or try again later. To get help from Windows Live Customer Support,
go to http://support.live.com and click Windows Live Mail in the list of
services.

Server Error: 0x80004005
Server: 'http://mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v2.0.0/Sync.aspx'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x80004005"

Accessing Hotmail using Internet Explorer is working though. Also, the
server address for my Hotmail account in Windows Live Mail is
"DeltaSync_v1.0.0". Changing it to "v2.0.0" gave the same error 0x80004005.

I am having the same problem. My internet connection is working fine, but it
claims it can't sign on to my Hotmail account to download messages or do
anything else. What is the deal here, Microsoft?

Can you try to delete and re-add the account to see if the problem goes
away?

Done that and even resort to deleting the Windows Live Mail message store
files/folders but it's still not working... FYI, am using Windows Vista.

Not sure if it's related to the recently installed NOD32 Antivirus 3.0 but
here goes the history, in chronological order:

- Windows Live Mail 12.0.1202.516 (Beta 2) with NOD32 Antivirus 2.7.39: no
issues

- Windows Live Mail 12.0.1202.516 (Beta 2) with NOD32 Antivirus 3.0.551
(uninstalled 2.7.39): no issues

- Windows Live Mail 12.0.1606.1023 (official final released) with NOD32
Antivirus 3.0.551: error 0x80004005
* tried uninstalling Windows Live Mail and reinstalling numerous times but
to no avail

- Windows Live Mail 12.0.1606.1023 (official final released) with NOD32
Antivirus 3.0.560 (installed over 3.0.551): error 0x80004005
* tried uninstalling and reinstalling Windows Live Mail and NOD32 Antivirus
numerous times but to no avail

- Windows Live Mail 12.0.1202.516 (Beta 2) with NOD32 Antivirus 3.0.560:
error 0x80004005
* it used to work before that

All protection (realtime, e-mail, web access) has been turned off since day
1 as I only need to use the on-demand scanner. Any thoughts?

Post complete details, including the verbose error message, in the *body*,
instead of a cryptic number in the *subject*, and you will get better
assistance.
