Error 0x800401f3 , Run regsr32, Entry point not found

Like others' posts with this error, I have problem with dll's not properly
registering.

Trying to run Windows Update it seeks latest version but goes no further.

However when I try the suggested solution that seemed to work for others,
(to run regsr32 command on the dll) I get a message saying "dll was loaded
but the dll Register Server entry point was not found. This file cannot be
registered".

Any way to get regsr32 to register these files?

The Windows update log also shows an incorrect version for 2 exe files and a
cpl file, wuauclt.exe, wuauclt1.exe, and wuaucpl.cpl. Run of regsr32 on them
also results in message that the file was loaded but no entry point was found
and a further message saying these are not dll files. So even if I get
regsr32 to register the dll files, what to do about these not dll files?

No need to reply now. But I hope this helps some others. (I'm running XP
version 5.1, Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158 : Service Pack 2).

Widows Update version 5 is sure causing a lot of grief due to dll problems
judging by the number of posts on this topic. It has been a problem for
months.

I found the solution for me in the following post March 2005 from "dak". The
key was to add "/s" to the regsvr32 command line. Windows Update is now
working fine. God bless you 'dak"!

Glad to hear that WU is now working for you. But just FYI stuff, adding
the /s switch didn't fix the problem. All that does is force Regsvr32
to work in "Silent" mode; thus you don't see the success or fail
results.

I expect that by running the series of Regsvr32 commands a second time
that the ones you had trouble with initially got registered this time.
Could it also be that you did a Restart on the system betwen the two
tries? That often helps.

Anyway, glad to know you are no longer having the problem, and thanks
for letting us know that.
