Any help much appreciated:
Repeated failures of Installation of Cumulative Security Update (KB918899)
on Windows XP SP2, using Automatic Windows Update.
The file seems to download OK (have checked in Software Distribution folder)
Windows installer backup OK
Windows installer then fails because cannot find: "update_SP2QFE.inf"

Tnx. Problem solved.
Note: Needed two attempts to succeed. Followed instructions as above.
Installation failed at first (a different error message appeared:
0x80246007). Repeated steps suggested and installation was successful.
