I cannot access Windows Update for my XP Pro PC.

Running WU I get the first message
but in the log the second is mentioned.

I have tried

1. to delete the SoftwareDist folder

2. to use the script
>>>

regsvr32 /u wuapi.dll /s
regsvr32 /u wups.dll /s
regsvr32 /u wuaueng.dll /s
regsvr32 /u wuaueng1.dll /s
regsvr32 /u wucltui.dll /s
regsvr32 /u wuweb.dll /s
regsvr32 /u MSXML3.dll /s
regsvr32 /u qmgr.dll /s
regsvr32 /u qmgrprxy.dll /s
regsvr32 /u jscript.dll /s
regsvr32 /u wups2.dll /s
regsvr32 /u atl.dll /s
regsvr32 wuapi.dll /s
regsvr32 wups.dll /s
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll /s
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll /s
regsvr32 wucltui.dll /s
regsvr32 wuweb.dll /s
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll /s
regsvr32 qmgr.dll /s
regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll /s
regsvr32 jscript.dll /s
regsvr32 wups2.dll /s
regsvr32 atl.dll /s
>>>>

BUT this does not work.

PLEASE HELP

Is someone from MS watching this?

Thank you

Hi Ake,

In order to solve problems with windows update you should take a look at
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/
Myabe there you have an striaght solution to your problem.

Anyway I would recomend you to follow any of the procedures related at:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906602/en-us
As there you will be able to solve the problem in 99% of the cases.

Best regards,

Luis.

Thank you Luis,
but the advices you give do not solve the problem.
As you might have seen these error codes are
not covered by the MS papers.

I did myself found after a while
that my PC was infected by malware.
Some of the Windows Update links (pdf-files for instance)
send me also to other sites (commercials I think)

My normal protection did not find anything at scanning
but after using a spyware removal tool the error disappeared.

I think MS should have a look at these malware

Thank you
