Help!!!
I keep getting this error code appear when I try to create a system restore
point.
It only started after installing Vista SP1.
I have tried one posted solution that fixed a known registry error from the
link below but it has not worked.

http://www.winhelponline.com/article...ows-Vista.html

Are there any other solutions out there?

thanks in advance

Shaun

Turn off system restore , Restart Windows, and turn it back on. You lose all
old restore points, but it should start working.
How to disable System Restore in Windows Vista:

I tried that but it has failed to work.
It actually seems to be a little more fundimental than just the System
restore point. I am getting the same message from some of the other functions
such as re-naming pc and turning Remote Access on and off from that group of
tabs.

Some Windows Vista functions may not work, or Windows Vista may stop

Mark,
That one did not work either, however I did manage to get MS to have a look
and they fixed it. As follows

Ensure Windows Event Log is turned on.
Re-start Task Scheduler.
Problem Solved

These were both turned off during the installation of Vista SP1. It was
suggested that it was because I had left my Virus software etc installed and
turned on.

Hope this helps you help others

I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium and my task manager is disabled
and greyed out. it wont let me enable it and run it in Automatic.
I have checked several things from
http://technet2.microsoft.com/window....mspx?mfr=true
To check If task schedular is disabled *And it is*
To check if Com Service is Disabled and *it's not*, its in Automatic.
To check if Windows Event Log Service is disabled and *its n**ot*, Its
in Automatic.
To check if RPC Service is disabled and *its not*, Its in Automatic.
With the two services enabled I can't figuer out why I cant enable
task Schedular.
Any other advice?
thank you

For those who have the same problem I found a solution on anothe
websight. Its editing the Registry so always back it up before you edi
it. The quote goes as.
You can get it started by changing this entry in the registry:
Navigate to:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\
Services\Schedule]

Change

"Start"=dword:00000004 (Disabled)

To

"Start"=dword:00000002 (Automatic)

I tried this with mine and it fixed my problem, even got to make
restore point.
Good Luck

I think you mean your task scheduler is disabled and greyed out,
right?

If so, I've never seen that - EVER. In fact, I've never seen ANY
service greyed out. Do you mean the "Start", "Stop", etc. options are
greyed out?

You can enable it by opening the menu where you see "disabled" and
putting it to Automatic. Click Apply, and then you will be able to
Start it.

Yes thats what I mean. But I got it fixed by way of my last post, by
editing the registry and changing the value from 4 to 2 which means
start, In doing so it changed it to enabled and automatic.
