Trying to get Windows/Microsoft Update -

My Error message: "The website has encountered a problem and cannot display
the page you are trying to view. The options provided below might help you
solve the problem. [Error number: 0x8007043B]"

I have gone here -
http://update.microsoft.com/windowsu...=en&IsMu=False

and here - http://www.updatexp.com/0x8007043b.html

Cannot complete the "fixes" listed on either page because registry editor
does not have the "value data" option to add BITS and WUAUSERV to the list of
services.

I did everything else suggested - nothing worked.

Any other ideas out there before I toss the computer out a window?

NO viruses on this thing - I just got rid of one, and repaired my OS by way
of the OEM CD. While doing so of course I reverted back to PRE-SP1 and had to
go download all the updates I could. Windows Update hasn't worked since I
reinstalled over my old OS. I have SP2 now and IE7 but only because I went
and got them manually. Now I am just fighting with the machine trying to get
it back to where it was BEFORE having to reinstall Win XP.

Thank you!

[The Devil's in the details!]

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP
installation:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

NB: Also applies to clean installs, upgrade installs, and Recovery installs.
