error 0x80072ee2 when accessing win updates

receiving error 0x80072ee2 when trying to do win updates on new dell optiplex
320, have done all items recommended by microsoft, have called dell twice,
still cannot resolve, have re-installed xp pro sp2 at least 4 times using
different media - to no avail, is there an issue with one of the initial
microsoft updates that is causing this problem?
