Error 0x80072EE2

I can't update Windows programmes (Microsoft update), I get error
0x800EE2. Can this problem be solved?

I was able to get update to run by going to IE 'help' menu - About Internet
Explorer. Click the System Info button. Under 'Pick a task...' click 1st
item for windows update.

Error 0x80072EE2 is: ERROR_INTERNET_TIMEOUT
Translation: The request has timed out.

It could be that the servers are busy and trying at another time may rectify
the problem. If not, see the link below for troubleshooting methods.

I encounter this error since Friday on different systems (XP, Server 2003,
Server 2008) and from different locations.
