Error 0x80072EE2 on Windows Update Site

Hello there,

I just installed Windows XP incl. SP1a on my computer.
After that I installed SP2.
Now, when I try to update my computer via the Windows Update Site, I get
Error number 0x80072EE2.
I get this error after the site is trying to look for updates for some time.

I tried almost every option that is given in this Discussion Group, but
still I get the error.

Can somebody please help me?

I run XP SP2 and had this same problem you described, error number 0x80072EE2
when running windows update. Additionally couldnt access some webmail
services including hotmail and couldnt send files with msn messenger, all
other internet activity was ok.

After trying many things, including all I found in thid discussion groups,
the hosts file, disabling firewall, etc etc..

finally I managed to shoot the problem down by reinstalling My windows SP2.
After reinstall everything seemed to work ok, XP downloaded all the updates
and installed them and it still runs ok. I dont now how long will it last but
for now ok.

Hello there.
I found myself to have the same trouble. Though after trying everything
listed here in these threads none helped, I found that my personal firewall
(Norton) was blocking out a program called Generic Host 32. If you h ave
Norton installed or any type of firewall please try going to the List that
Aloows or Blocks all programs that are running on your computer. If you find
a program called neric Host 32 Make sure you ALLOW ALL content of this to
load and acceess the internet. Then make sure that Under your Internet tools
in your Explorer browser is accepting all the update websites. As soon as I
allowed that Generic Host to access the internet I had no problems installing
my updates. Make sure you also turn you automatic updates on after you run
your updates and install them.

if BITS is not running causes like these errors.
run BITS at services and start Background Intellegent Transfer Service
