Error 0x80072EFF on Windows update with XP

I am receiving the above error whenever I try to do a windows update. I've
been able to do update before (about a month ago) but suddenly every time I
try to do one now I keep getting this error on the Microsoft updates page.
Please help.

0x80072eff The server could not be reached. This can be caused by temporary
network conditions. The connection to Exchange Server was lost. Typically,
this condition is temporary. Try to synchronize again later.
