Hi,
This error means that you do not have permission to update. users installing patches or hotfixes required the following rights - Restore files and directory - Manage auditing and security logs - Backup files and directories - Take ownership of files and folders. Verify that these permission are granted to the user by checking local group policy first: From the client machine that is failing to install the updates: 1. Start-Run-gpedit.msc 2. Computer Configuration-Windows Settings-Security Settings-Local policies-User rights assignment 3. Locate the rights listed above and ensure that administrator or an equivalent user or group is present. Windows 2000 displays "Local setting" and "Effective Setting". It is important that the Effective Setting be the same (even though it may appear greyed out). If the Effective setting is different this means that another group policy object on the domain is overriding the local policy. The customer can choose to configure these rights at the OU level or at the default domain level as machine will need these settings. After changing the policy you must refresh the group policy on the machine: 1. XP type Start-Run-gpupdate 2. 2000 type secedit /refreshpolicy machine_policy /enforce You must now rebuild the user's token that is created at logon: 1. Logoff of the machine 2. Logon to the machine How can I verify if my token does contain the user rights listed above? Run adtoken from \\regaltang\tools\ADToken The output looks like this: Privileges From Token ===================== Privilege 0: SeChangeNotifyPrivilege : Attr SE_PRIVILEGE_ENABLED SE_PRIVILEGE_ENABLED_BY_DEFAULT Privilege 1: SeSecurityPrivilege : Attr NONE Privilege 2: SeBackupPrivilege : Attr NONE Privilege 3: SeRestorePrivilege : Attr NONE Privilege 4: SeSystemtimePrivilege : Attr NONE Privilege 5: SeShutdownPrivilege : Attr NONE Privilege 6: SeRemoteShutdownPrivilege : Attr NONE Privilege 7: SeTakeOwnershipPrivilege : Attr NONE Privilege 8: SeDebugPrivilege : Attr NONE Privilege 9: SeSystemEnvironmentPrivilege : Attr NONE Privilege 10: SeSystemProfilePrivilege : Attr NONE Privilege 11: SeProfileSingleProcessPrivilege : Attr NONE Privilege 12: SeIncreaseBasePriorityPrivilege : Attr NONE Privilege 13: SeLoadDriverPrivilege : Attr SE_PRIVILEGE_ENABLED Privilege 14: SeCreatePagefilePrivilege : Attr NONE Privilege 15: SeIncreaseQuotaPrivilege : Attr NONE Privilege 16: SeUndockPrivilege : Attr SE_PRIVILEGE_ENABLED Privilege 17: SeManageVolumePrivilege : Attr NONE Privilege 18: SeImpersonatePrivilege : Attr SE_PRIVILEGE_ENABLED SE_PRIVILEGE_ENABLED_BY_DEFAULT Thank you Eric <> wrote in message news: oups.com... >A few of my users on our domain, our getting this error while trying to > run windows update. i have followed the suggestions on this site and > made changes to our domain controllers: > > http://groups.google.com/group/micro...6f5fdd11e8c6a8 > > however that has no fixed the issue. anyone have any suggestions? > > this is a log form just ONE of the updates that arent working. > > > > > > [KB900485.log] > 1.015: > ================================================== ============================== > 1.015: 2006/04/25 22:09:51.747 (local) > 1.015: > C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\S-1-5-18\1e46aea4cda580bea3090b17e0e7e296\update\update. exe > (version 6.2.29.0) > 1.031: Hotfix started with following command line: /si > /ParentInfo:7ef3760d06d5774481d9428815ace088 > 1.797: DoInstallation: CleanPFR failed: 0x2 > 1.812: SetProductTypes: InfProductBuildType=BuildType.IP > 1.812: SetAltOsLoaderPath: No section uses DirId 65701;
