Updates from the Windows Update Web site are not installed and an "Error 0x80070005:
Access is denied" error message is logged to the Windows Update.log file

When searching for available updates on the Windows Update site, you see the
0x800A01AD error while looking for updates - This error message may occur if you
have insufficient permissions to the Windows Update registry keys. The
WindowsUpdate.log file will also read errors 0x80070005 and 0x80080005.

Please also have a look at: "Access denied" section here:

First, I am NOT very computer literate and beg for patience and assistance.
I also have rec'd the "Access Denied" error message due to Registry matters.
I am terrified at trying to take care of this because of the warning given my
Microsoft that we do so "at your own risk". AND, after reading of the many
problems people are having after installing SP2, I am now terrified of going
through with the installation. What do I do? I do not want to destroy my 6
month old computer, etc. Thanks for any and all input.
