When accessing the Update site, you receive the 0x800A01AE error
http://update.microsoft.com/microsof...cleid=38&ln=en

This issue may happen if the current session of Internet Explorer has cached
an older version of Wuapi.dll
Clean out your temporary internet files etc.

If that doesn't fix the problem:-

Try re-registering the following dlls

Click Start, Select: Run
Now type the follow commands in the Open box, pressing okay after each one:-

regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll

Reboot and try the Windows Update site again.

I am having major problems getting the Windows Update to work. I have no idea
the last time it updated, but it could be as much as a year ago now. I am
getting the 0x800A01AE error, and have tried all the available answers to fix
it. I have re-registered all the dll files, multiple times:

(regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll)

I have gone to the dlldump site and downloaded new versions of all these
files. I have rebooted, turned off my firewall, plugged directly into my
cable modem instead of my router, and nothing has had any effect. My system
is 2000 Pro, I have Service Pack 4 installed, and I have Trend Micro PC
Cillin 2005 installed (but currently disabled).

If anyone can offer any suggestions to fix or work atround this error, I
would be most appreciative.

Thanks, Tim

Cleared out the Temporary Internet files. No change in the response I'm
getting.

I take it that no one has any other ideas on my problem then? Any suggestions
on where else to go for help? I'm assuming it's relatively important that I
figure this out...

Are there any suggestions to fixing this issue outside of re-registering the
system files? I'd really like to solve this issue and update Windows, and am
having no luck with anything I try. There has to be something else I can do...

Thanks, but you had previously suggested that to me, and I replied earlier
that it did not work. For the record, I tried it again, and re-registered all
of the files again, and it still did not fix anything. Unless there's
something beyond clearing out the temp internet files in the tools/options
menu in the browser that I need to do.

Aren't there other suggestions? I can't believe I'm the only one who has
ever had this happen...

Have you tried closing all session of Internet Explorer and then access the Update
site by clicking on the Update icon from the start menu.

You're not the only one
http://groups.google.com.au/groups/s...AE&qt_s=Search

Have you checked your firewall to make sure that nothing is being blocked from WU
site?
