When I try to update, the updates are downloaded, but when they try to
install I get this: "Updates were unable to be sucessfully installed". I
looked into windowsupdate.log and found this error codes: 0x80240020
(interactive user is missing to finish the operation), 0x80240FFF (generic
unexpected failure), 0x80240018 (operation failed due to missing user token).

I have tryed following:
- search the net (no answer to be found, but many with similar problems)
- renamed SoftwareDistribution folder (didn't do anything)
- renamed CatRoot2 folder (didn't do anything)
- Logged in as Administrator (nope...)
- Disable Adaware, firewall etc. (nope)
- clean boot (Safe boot)... nope
- remove activex (nah...)
- used system mechanics to clean register, trash files etc. (no help in that)

Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer 2.0 have also this to add: The catalog
file is damage or an invalid catalog (I wonder which catalog???)

When I manually downloading the updates, there is no problem to install the
fix'es. This is strange...

Does anyone know which keys in the register and which files that is involved
when using windows update (v6)? That would be useful.

I'm frustrated...

Hi,

If you have Windows 2000 or Windows XP Pro, please do the following:

1. Start Explorer.
2. In Explorer, right click on "My Computer"
3. Select "Manage"
4. Expand Local Users and Groups.
5. Select Users.
6. Open the account used to access Windows Update.
7. Click the Member Of tab.
8. Post back to the newsgroup the groups listed

Regards,
Torgeir

Hi,

Then it wasn't what I suspected it could be.

For your MBSA issue I suggest you post to the MBSA newsgroup:

microsoft.public.security.baseline_analyzer

Some previous threads about the "The catalog file is damaged"
issue:
