Error 0x80242000

All the August Windows updates failed to install with the error 0x8042000.

According to a list of WU codes this means "The caller
requested a remote object, but no remote process is available"

I have re-registered all the various DLL files as suggested in different
posts.

I have re-installed the Windows update software as per a post from an MVP.

Still the same problem.

Any suggestions gratefully received.
