All the solutions previously posted didnt work for me... so I went nuts
and deleted
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\WindowsUpdate
entirely...
that did the trick for me. hope it helps.
NOTE: Make a backup of it first by exporting it... I still dont know if
it broke anything on my system... WU is working fine.
