Error 0x80244016 W2k SP4

Read all the posts about W2k3 server.
W2K doesn't recognize proxycfg command.

Did delete all temporary internet files, including off line, cookies, ran
Spyware, scanned for viruses, rebooted many times, disabled McA VSE 7x tried
again.

Failed again.


History shows this update failed KB886906.
Also shows .net 1.1 failed twice but succeeded once.

Any suggestions?

are you behind a proxy server?

also this code error can occur if Automatic Update service
is malfunctioning, at the command prompt type:

net stop wuauserv [enter]
net start wuauserv [enter]

and see if any error are displayed

Thanks for trying fermu, no success.
No errors on the commands, wu service restarted ok.
Still can't update, same error.

Yes behind proxy server, but so are all the other W2K machines here, this is
the only one that gets this error.

Ok, you have said that the command proxycfg doesn't recognized in your
system, but this command is included in SP4. Are this service pack
installed in your computer?

So, update your system and type this lines at the command prompt,press
enter key at the end of each line

net stop wuauserv
proxycfg -d
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
net start wuauserv

Hi,

Actually, Proxycfg.exe does not come with SP4 for Win2k. From the KB
article listed above:

"However, the WinHTTP proxy configuration tool, Proxycfg.exe, was not
included in these service packs."


SP2 for WinXP includes it though.

Hi,

I don't think so, it is an very old version (5.1.2407.1, dated
2001-03-08), and the KB article 830605 states "Earlier versions of
Proxycfg.exe do not work with WinHTTP 5.1."

Better to use the Proxycfg.exe that comes with WinXP SP2, with version
number 5.1.2600.2180
