Many thanks for your reply. While the references are for a situation not
exactly like mine, I will try installing the patch you mentioned and see what
happens.
In the meanwhile, it has been determined that the server in question is
going to be wiped and rebuilt to deal with other issues, so the question has
been renedered largely moot.
