Unable to update a Windows XP computer. I keep getting the error number
0x80244B and can find no information on what to do.
Two Questions:
What is Error 0x8024402B?
and
How do I fix this so I can get updates?

Question 1 - I dont know.

Question 2 - you could try the following:-

8024402B

Suggestion 1. Make sure that the date, time, and time zone on your computer
are correct.

Suggestion 2. Go to Start, Run, type in
net.exe stop wuauserv
Click OK or press Enter

Re-register these files from Start, Run, type these in and click OK or press
Enter after each one:

regsvr32.exe wuapi.dll
regsvr32.exe wuaueng.dll
regsvr32.exe wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32.exe wucltui.dll
regsvr32.exe wups.dll
regsvr32.exe wuweb.dll
regsvr32.exe MSXML3.dll

net.exe start wuauserv

Suggestion 3. If still no joy, follow the steps here :

Hi Jim, there's not much on this error,
apparently it means
0x8024402b WU_E_PT_HTTP_STATUS_NOT_MAPPED
Http status other than 200, but not mapped above

I'll see if there is anything else I can find out to assist you.

Looks like a connectivity problem of some kind then.
It would probably help for Jim to describe his connection
and related options (e.g. in IE Options, Connections).
I would try getting a packet trace of the fault.
E.g. capture it with netcap or Ethereal. Etc.

the information I would need to get. Where do I find this information and
what is netcap or Eathereal?
