I am trying to help a friend with computer problems. When she is trying to
update Windows she gets the following error: 0x8024502D
She has SP2 installed on a Windows XP home version. Any suggestions on how
to fix this?

We have tried the following without any success
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;883821

On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
Click the Connections tab, click LAN Settings, and then click
Advance.
Delete any entry in the Exceptions section.
Quit Internet Explorer.
Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
Type the following commands. Press ENTER after each command..
proxycfg -d
. net stop wuauserv
. net start wuauserv

Any help is appreciated and thanks so much in advance

What causes Error 0x8024502d
http://www.updatexp.com/0x8024502d.html

<snip>
Reconfigure or update your firewall program.
Double-check the Proxy/Firewall settings. Add the following urls to the exception
list within your Firewall/Proxy:

http://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
https://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://download.windowsupdate.com

For help configuring Proxy/Firewall refer to documentation or contact the
manufacturer.

Thanks so much for the reply. We have tried most of these ... are not on a
VPN or are behind a server. This is stand alone computer and in as far as
the firewall is concerned the only one she has is the XP built in Firewall.
Is that the one you suggest adding the list below to and if I may ask could
you give us the steps to do that because we do not seem to find the place
where these can be added..
Thanks you.

Refers to Third Party Firewalls.

Something is blocking WU, see if there's anything of assistance on this link
You receive an "Error 0x80072EE2" error message, an "Error 0x80072EFD" error message,
or an "Error 0x80072f76" error message if you try to use the Microsoft Windows Update
Web site or the Microsoft Update Web site
