error 0x80246008 windows update

I am trying to run windows update and keep getting the above message. When I
follow the windows help, they tell me to start BITS. It won't start due to
error code -2147024894. Can anyone help me with this?

Try manually downloading BITS and installing.

I had this same problem and went thru a bunch of stuff and then found some
info on another post. When I looked in System Event Log I could see where
BITS started with the update and then stopped on error.

run regedit32 and look for the following Key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SySTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l|BackupRestore\FilesNotToBackup
I found it missing. I looked at another pc that works and found that in
this key was the following: BITS_metadatta REG_MULTI_SZ C:\Documents and
Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Network|Downloader\*

I put that in and it worked like a charm!

With Windows 2000 I had the same troubles. I was searching for a solution
since May 2005.
I'm very happy I read this suggestion. It works for me too!!!!

Ihave been reading all the remarks on how to fix this problem...and don't
understand half of what you are talking about. I have never had problems
downloading updates untill about a month ago. Why now? I have noticed where
it is trying to download, and I get the little sheild icon and it says 0%. I
turned odd firewall today and still 0%
