Error: 0x8024D007 trying Windows Update using the new ActiveX

Prompted to install the new ActiveX component for Windows Update, and
accepted the security prompts, it gave the error code above, and said it
'Can't show the page you are trying to display'.
The suggested Troubleshooting tips does not mention the error code in
question.
Tried to remove Temp Internet files, re-tried a couple of times.
Same occurs.

Be very sure to state what version of Windows this is.

Go back to Windows Update, but then select View update history. (When you first get to website for Microsoft Update-Windows Update, look at left-hand column, under Options. Press "Review your update history".)
If this is on V6 of Windows Update, you should be able to click on that error note, and see some info.

Look at your log file for Windows Update. There may be another exception noted that preceded this one.

If you cannot find it, post an *extract* from the log, but only for the very last date.
Use Notepad or Wordpad and open & look at the Windows Update log file
C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log or C:\WINNT\WindowsUpdate.log

Scroll down all the way. Get / copy / paste (ideally, put into a file & attach in reply back here) the set of lines for (today's ) the last session.


Put some Microsoft sites in the Trusted Sites list of Internet Explorer browser.
Internet Explorer > main menu /Tools/Internet Options >

Security Tab/ click on green icon Trusted Sites/click Sites button.
Click "Require server verification (https for all sites in this zone" to *clear* the selection.

In the "Add this Web site to the zone:" field, add these entries to list of "Trusted Sites" --

http://download.windowsupdate.com (click Add)

http://update.microsoft.com

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com


Click OK.

I did what you suggested (OS are: Win XP 2002 Home Ed. SP1 with updates upto
Feb 2006):
1. Ran WUpdate once again (around 11:14)
2. Copied the Log (from today limited due to posting limit)
3. Added 3 suggested Microsoft sites as Trusted MS IE sites (around 11:27)
4. Ran WUpdate once again.
5. Extracted the new log entries from step 4.
6. Posted the Log here (cannot attach file via Browser to NewsGroup, I
insert log below)
Results the same, but more info. in log might lead to source of problem.

Did a new (re-)search of the Self register error of wuapi.dll, I found this
tip from the Myrrdin user 16-12-2005 in reply to a thread started by "Sander
Klaver":

And this is the solution. If you have this special problem (Problem to
register the wuapi.dll) go directly to Step 4 (Changing permission of
registry keys).
