After installing Windows XP SP2 for XP Home Edition running Windows Update
under an account designated a computer administrator the error 0x8DDD0002 is
returned with the message "To install items from Windows Update, you must be
logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group. If
your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings might also
prevent you from completing this procedure." The account is an administrator.
The computer is in a simple 2 machine workgroup connected to a D-Link ADSL
model/router network with no obvious policies. The internet security settings
are all set to default.
Any ideas how to resolve this?

Hello,

You can confirm that the account used to logon to Windows is part of the
Administrator's group. What happens if you logon as the actual
Administrator?

The Hello,

Thanks for your response. The Control Panel, User Accounts dialog lists the
account I used as "Computer administrator, password protected". However,
there is no "Administrator" account listed to log in as. How do I log in as
"the actual Administrator" as this account is not displayed in the log in
screen? The settings for "Select logon and logoff options" are set to Use the
Welcome screen and Use fast user switching both checked on.
