Error 8000FFFF

Is anyone familiar with resolving error 8000ffff? I have tried uninstalling
Windows Live Essentials, then re-installing it...It didn't work...I even
tried downloading contacts.msi...I'm so confused, I don't know why it won't
work...I can't even install an older version because apparently as of
September 15, 2009 all older version of msn must be updated! Please help me,
I need my msn

Other than that, an in place upgrade or a format/reinstall are the only
methods left to resolve the error.

There is, for example, at least one "hotfix" for a similar problem (error is
not identical) in Windows 2000. So, a lot would depend on what version of
Windows you're running.

However, there is a very good chance are that you are seeing the affects of
a hijackware infection.

1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually:

2. Run this online scan (in safe mode w/networking, if need be):

3. Run a thorough check for hijackware, including posting the requested
logs in an appropriate forum, not here.
