You receive error message 0x80070003 when you try to update Windows from the Windows Update Web site http://www.jsiinc.com/SUBQ/tip8000/rh8024.htm When you attempt to update Windows XP from the Windows Update Web site, you receive error 0x80070003? 0x80070003 -2147024893 COR_E_DIRECTORYNOTFOUND The specified path couldn't be found - ALLUSERSPROFILE Microsoft network dir doesn’t exist If the above doesn’t assist, suggestion by Torgeir Bakken (MVP) If the directory "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network" does not exist, you will get this error. %ALLUSERSPROFILE% is normally "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users" To verify existence/create this folder, you can do like this: Press Start/Run, and fill in this: "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft" Press OK, and the Microsoft folder will open. If no Network folder is found there, create it (File\New --> Folder). Thanks anyways, Derek "Taurarian" wrote: > http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=836949 > You receive error message 0x80070003 when you try to update Windows from the Windows > Update Web site > > http://www.jsiinc.com/SUBQ/tip8000/rh8024.htm > When you attempt to update Windows XP from the Windows Update Web site, you receive > error 0x80070003? > > > > > 0x80070003 -2147024893 COR_E_DIRECTORYNOTFOUND > The specified path couldn't be found - ALLUSERSPROFILE Microsoft network dir doesn’t > exist > > > > If the above doesn’t assist, suggestion by Torgeir Bakken (MVP) > > If the directory "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network" > does not exist, you will get this error. > > %ALLUSERSPROFILE% is normally "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users" > > To verify existence/create this folder, you can do like this: > > Press Start/Run, and fill in this: > > "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft" > > Press OK, and the Microsoft folder will open. > > If no Network folder is found there, create it (File\New --> Folder). > > > > "Derek Telasco" <> wrote in message > news:0038ECBC-B367-4AE2-8780-... > > Hi, > > > > Automatic updates fail, when I force a Windows update, it fails, and when I > > download the individual update and execute it, that fails too. I have the same problem. Here some information about my case:
Update: KB885835 Error code: 80070003 My Windows XP Professional version is Portuguese (Brazil). I followed these steps. -> http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=836949 You receive error message 0x80070003 when you try to update Windows from the Windows Update Web site HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion ProgramFilesDir=C:\Arquivos de programas ProgramFilesPath=%ProgramFiles% On my computer I have the folder C:\Arquivos de programas\WindowsUpdate and this folder has only the folder V4. I realized that the WU URL is http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com (version 5?). Can that be a problem? I´ve downloaded the stand alone version of this patch but the same error ocurred when trying to install it. Follow the log for this KB: 0.891: 2005/02/13 09:48:49.187 (local) 0.891: d:\dcd579b7b1e01a9432385557a6\update\update.exe (version 5.5.33.0) 0.891: Service Pack iniciado com a linha de comando a seguir: 1.281: ---- Old Information In The Registry ------ 1.281: Source:C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Dados de aplicativos\GbPlugin\Bb\gbieh.gmd.B9FE1A71 1.281: Destination:C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\gbieh.gmd 1.281: ---- New Information In The Registry ------ 1.281: Source:C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Dados de aplicativos\GbPlugin\Bb\gbieh.gmd.B9FE1A71 1.281: Destination:C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\gbieh.gmd 1.281: SetProductTypes: InfProductBuildType=BuildType.Sel 1.281: SetAltOsLoaderPath: No section uses DirId 65701; done. 1.312: DoInstallation: FetchSourceURL for d:\dcd579b7b1e01a9432385557a6\update\update_SP2GDR .inf failed 1.312: LoadFileQueues: SetupGetSourceFileLocation for halaacpi.dll failed: 0xe0000102 1.344: LoadFileQueues: QueueMigrationStageFiles failed: 0x00000003 1.344: InventoryThread: LoadFileQueues failed with error: 0x3 1.344: Inventory complete: ReturnStatus=3, 32 ticks 5.672: CreateUninstall = 1,Directory = C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB885835$ 5.672: Num Ticks for invent : 4360 5.734: O sistema não pode encontrar o caminho especificado. 8.359: Message displayed to the user: O sistema não pode encontrar o caminho especificado. 8.359: User Input: OK 8.359: A Instalação do KB885835 não foi concluÃ*da. 9.516: Message displayed to the user: A Instalação do KB885835 não foi concluÃ*da. 9.516: User Input: OK 9.516: Update.exe extended error code = 0x3 9.516: Update.exe return code was masked to 0x643 for MSI custom action compliance. Can that be a problem? Hi Please try this: Clean out the Download folder (WU5's temporary download folder) located here: %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\ (%windir% is typically C:\Windows) You can use the procedure described here: http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...cleid=11&ln=en You may need to delete the DataStore folder mentioned in the link above, as well as the Download folder. -- torgeir, Microsoft MVP Scripting and WMI, Porsgrunn Norway Administration scripting examples and an ONLINE version of the 1328 page Scripting Guide: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/scr...r/default.mspx |

Just got the same problem. Many updates wont install with the 0x80070003 error. tried all above but no avail. Just found that the "FILE" $hf_mig$ (Yes a file, not a directory) under \windows directory should also be deleted to help this out. Now everything updates smoothly. LB |

0x80070003 = COR_E_DIRECTORYNOTFOUND
The specified path couldn't be found - ALLUSERSPROFILE Microsoft network dir doesn't exist Make sure the following folders exist under %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\ Note: (%windir% = C:\Windows) DataStore\ Download\ EventCache\ SelfUpdate\ WebSetup\ WuRedir\ http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=836949 You receive error message 0x80070003 when you try to update Windows from the Windows Update Web site http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;824994 Description of the contents of Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Windows Server 2003 software update packages %windir%\$hf_mig$ folder It should be a Folder? loben wrote: >> Clean out the Download folder (WU5's temporary download folder) >> located here: >> >> %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\ >> >> (%windir% is typically C:\Windows) >> >> You can use the procedure described here: >> >> http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...cleid=11&ln=en >> >> You may need to delete the DataStore folder mentioned in the link >> above, as well as the Download folder. > > Just got the same problem. I had all the problems in this thread and deleted the %windir%\$hf_mig$
FOLDER, not file , and the updates then worked perfectly. I've also had installation problem with just one "KB896358". It installed
successfully after I deleted it from the "$hf_mig$" folder. You may just have to delete the file of the update(s) that you're hvind trouble with, not the entire folder.
