Had Same issue on my desktop too. Try to do Windows Update from my Windows
Vista Ultimate 32 bit . Got the same error numer:80070005.
TypeI:
The work around for this is to verify the user credentials , typically
Windows is looking for the access to do the update. In my case i did some
changes to my user , instead of making my user only as Administrator & Remote
added all other crap to get full access. But we should not add all the
credentials only Administrator group must be added to the preferref user
which should be having access to do windows update.
So simple login to Administrator user or the user with Admin rights and try
the Windows Update. It should fix all your issues.
Type II:
Other work around is if you have the any antiirus please uninstall and make
you machine to reboot in safe mode. Rename the following to *.old
(c:\Windows\) SoftwareDistribution to
SoftwareDistribution.old and reboot the machine.
Verify the user Admin credentials and try to use the Windows Update program
it should work .
Still having issues please let me know.
