I run Windows XP SP2 and my automatic updates dont work. When I try to update

What kind of hard disk maintenance do you mean? Defragmentation, Clean-Up? I

Clean up the temporary internet files, including the softwaredistribution/downloads
folder. Do some hard disk maintenance. To clear out the temporary WU folder - Stop the Automatic Updates service Click Start, Choose Run. In the Run box, type services.msc. Click OK. Right-click the Automatic Updates service. Click Stop. Stopping the service will take a moment. Delete the contents of the Download folder Click Start. Choose Run. In the Run box, type %windir%\SoftwareDistribution Click OK. Open the Download folder. Delete all contents of the Download folder. Close the window. Start the Automatic Updates service Click Start. Choose Run. In the Run box, type services.msc. Click OK. Right-click the Automatic Updates service. Click Start. Starting the service will take a moment. By deleting the contents of the Download folder - you have removed any downloaded (or corrupted) updates. For the other error - 0x80240038 Close all instances of Internet Explorer. Now re-register the following files:- 1. Click Start. 2. Choose Run. 3. This is a puzzler, make sure that you don't have a firewall interfering or any other
programs like web accelerators etc. If you're using a router, perhaps try a direct connection. There is no-charge for support calls that are associated with security updates or using Automatic Updates. When you call, clearly state that your problem is. Would it help if I re-register muweb.dll too? It appears to me that the error
occurs in that module. I only have the Windows Firewall running and no web accelerators at all. Furthermore I have a speedtouch modem that also works as a router, but I do not think that I can just unplug that and get a direct connection.
