Hi,

I've got a clean install of Windows Server 2003 R2. It refuses to update
from the Windows Update site. If I go to IE's Tools menu and choose
Windows Update, I get to "Get the latest Windows Update software". If I
click Install Now, it gets to 100% downloaded then dies with error
0x80070020 and says "the website has encountered a problem and cannot
display the page you are trying to view". If I click the link for
Microsoft Update I get to the license agreement, then it does a download
and I get the same error listed above. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mark

Microsoft just posted an kb article and an updated version of the
WGDiag (Windows Genuine Diagnostic Tool). The new version is ver.2.
They state this was done because of an issue reported by some (try a
lot of people) having problems with both Windows Update and Microsoft
Update. Search Microsoft for WGDDiag2.exe run the program and then
retry to update. Worked like a charm for me. In fact to be safe,
after it ran and worked I went back and downloaded it in case I need to
run it again in the future.

Sounds good but I'm coming up empty searching MS Download page, the
Knowledge Base, and Google. Could you please post a link or the kb number?

Thanks.

You receive a "0x80070020 The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another
process" error message when you try to download an update from Windows Update or from Microsoft
Update
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;883825

Article suggests that a virus scanner could be interrupting the site.
