As the subject says.. I get error 8100030D when signing into Messenger.
Running version 2008 (build 8.5.1302.1018), running Windows XP Pro.

I have tried many different solutions to get rid of the problem, including
re-registering 4 or 5 DLLs, uninstalling/reinstalling Messenger, making sure
I am not running a firewall or antivirus package preventing connection, etc..
nothing works, EXCEPT changing accounts! I have another signin for Messenger
that I use at home and it signs in just fine where the other account fails.

Given that it's limited to one account (), I checked out
'ideas.msn.com' to see if this account is set up for the Messenger 9 beta,
but as far as I can tell, it is not.

What else could be wrong with this one account that causes it to give error
8100030D when trying to sign in?

thanks in advance,
Loren

A quick update.. I also tried the suggestion on this page regarding deletion
of contacts folders, with no change in results:

I haven't received any responses, helpful or otherwise (as you can see). My
advice would be to try signing into webmessenger.msn.com and see if your
account works there.

The latest on my situation is that this issue is limited only to one
computer. I can sign in with the problem account in Web Messenger or on
other computers with no trouble whatsoever, and on the computer that gives
trouble, I can sign into Messenger with other accounts with no problem. So
near as I can figure, the issue is something in the profile or registry to do
with my lorenwrk account. As I said, I've removed the profile folders
associated with that account, with no change, and have tried searching the
registry for it as well.

Sure would be nice to get an answer...

Hi again Loren

I have just repaired my MSN Messenger Beta. I went to the controll panel
and opened up add/remove programs and removed windows sign in helper then
tried to sign in to find it made no difference so I decided to uninstall
Windows Live Essentials when an option to repair came up. I took this option
then had to reboot checked it out and low and behold I can now actually sign
in. Give it a try and let me know how you get on.

Regards
Enigma
