Hello,
I'm from Germany, so don't expect perfect english
I've got a problem on a brand-new computer:
# Core2Duo E7300
# 2GB DDR2-800 (2x1GB) Hynix
# Foxconn G31M
# Onboard VGA (Intel GMA 3100)
# LAN Onboard
# 160GB WD Caviar Blue
# Samsung DVD-RW
# FSP 350W PSU
# Windows XP Pro SP3 including nearly every Update
The Update for the virtual address descriptor seems to damage essential,
system-critical files, such as ntoskrnl.exe or ntfs.sys. After installing
that update, the computer won't start after a reboot and gives out the
message, that a file ist either missing oder damaged. The message also tells
me to try to replace it from the Windows XP CD, I tried that but it doesn't
solve the problem.
The only solution to recover the system seems to be a repair-installation.
The hardware works stable, there are no errors on the harddisk (tested with
SpinRite 6) and also the memory is 100% functional (tested with memtest86+,
more than 10 passes).
