Error when Burning DVD's of Recorded TV from within MCE

When trying to create a DVD copy for a stand alone player within MCE, I get
the follow message: “Creation Progress

Disc creation is in progress and may take several hours to complete. Select
OK to do other things while the disk is being created.” Then it hangs at 4%.
It also says being powered by Sonic. Which the Windows Decoder checker says
is incompatable. However, that is what came with the HP System. I can see in
the task manager that the program is running and doing something.

Then it switches to the following message:

“Creation Failure

An Error has occurred in creating the cd/dvd” and the DVD pops out.
I told this problem to HP after installing MCE 2005. They told me it was
because I installed NERO and I would have to remove NERO and preform a
destructive reinstall from scratch of the operating system. Could these be
related?

If this happens every time you try & create a DVD then it probably is related.
However if it is one particular show then I'm afraid that is just a quirk of
MCE. Every so often it records a show that is corrupt in some way so even though
it plays OK within MCE no DVD authoring package will import it.

It happens every time. I have never been able to burn a DVD for player use.

Do you have WinDVD installed - I think I remember someone the other day had
a similar issue kicking in at 4% and apparently was due to the WinDVD
software not being registered.

It was fixed by running the WinDVD media player and registering the
software...

Hi Terry,
How do I register the software. It was OEM with my HP m380n. I think the
first time it ran, it asked me to register and I blew it off. I tried through
their website with no success.
Thanks,
Joe Voss

Hi jjv,

Not sure as I actually use the Nvidia decoder - perhaps Joe (the other Joe)
could help?

You could try running the Intervideo media player, and right clicking and
going into the "About WinDVD" Menu and seeing if there is an option to
register in there.

Hi!

This is EXACTLY the same problem I've had--I just purchased an HP m1170n,
with MCE 2005; and when I went to burn a recorded TV program to a DVD, I got
the same results. I thought I had already registered and run WinDVD, but
perhaps not; when I get home I'm going to check it out.

Thanks very much!

Hi Mike,
I don't know if this works because I can't figure out how to register the
software. If it works , please let us know how you did it. Let us know either
way.
Thanks,
Joe

Hi,

I have the HP M1160n and encountered the same problem. I have not
installed any additional DVD burning software. But when I tried this
method the DVD would be created.

Your same problem occured to me when I tried to burn a recorded TV
program
from within the recorded TV menu screen (duh). I then read the software
guide provided with my computer and here are the instructions.

Go to the "More Programs" menu within the Media Center. From within that
you:
1. select "Create CD/DVD"
2. Select CD or DVD
3. Music or Data
4. Enter Title
5. Select Recorded TV
6. Select TV programs to want to record
7. Select eith View DVD or CD
8. Select Create DVD or CD
9. Select Yes
10. Follow the onsecreen instructions to complete buring your TV show to
disc.

This saved my recorded TV programs to DVD.

Well Harry,
Thank you very much. It worked 100% I can now burn DVD's that play in a
regular DVD player. It worked 100%. Go figure, read the directions. I often
prefer banging my head against the wall for three months.
Thank you!!!!!!!!!
