Security Update for SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 4 (KB960082) Failed
- Installation Failure
-Error Code: 0x2B33
- Try to install the update again, or request help from one of the following
resources.

Had similar problem with SQL SP3 and spent 8 hours on phone with tech
support to resolve the install problem. Here we go again... Please help!!!!
How can I get this automatic update to install without having to give up a
day of my life to Bill Gate's monster!

Hi,

For the failure of KB960082, could you provide the following log files?

%windir%\sql2000-KB960082-v8.00.2055-[]-[lang].log

For the SQL SP3 you mentioned, do you mean update for sql server 2005
(KB955706)? If yes, could you provide the following log files? And what's
your OS?
1. %Program Files%\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup
Bootstrap\LOG\Hotfix\Summary.txt
2. %Program Files%\\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup
Bootstrap\LOG\Hotfix\SQL9_Hotfix_KB955706_sqlrun_s ql.msp.log

Thanks a lot!!

Looks like the SP3 is for 2000, so please just provide me the log for
KB960082. Sorry for the inconvience, but we really need the logs to
investigate the failure..Thanks for your help!

For this error code, this may because the SQL Server services is disabled.
Click start, typing “services.msc” in the run line. Check which service is
disabled.

I changed all SQL listings to Automatic. Restarted computer. Still wouldn't
install.

Try this below from Johnnycat on 8/19/2008. Worked for me!

Not sure of your configuration, etc., but I had the same issue and the way I
resolved it was to go into services and change the MSSQL$SBSMONITORING from
disabled to manual and this allowed the update to be installed. Then again,
it might have just been a fluke, but that's all I did and the update
installed after the change. I hope it works for you.

Click Start, typing “services.msc” in the run line for a shortcut to Services.
