I've attempted repeatedly to install the most recent Excel 2003 update
(KB905756), always failing in the attempt. A look at the installation
history reveals that I keep getting error code 0x57A.

Your installation issue typically occurs when the previous Microsoft Office
components are corrupt. To correct the detailed error, I suggest that you manually
install the update. For your convenience, I have listed the steps below.

1. Please download the update to the desktop.

Security Update for Excel 2003 (KB905756)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

2. Double click the downloaded update to install them.

Note: Have your Office 2003 CD available as you may be prompted to
insert it in the CD drive.

After finishing the above steps, please try to access the Microsoft Update
site again to see whether you have successfully installed the update.

That did it. Turns out I had a permissions problem with .tiff (strangely
enough, I think I had a similar problem installing IE7 beta--I may have
changed the entry to help IE7 but inadvertently halting this update).

Thanks for your help.

I have the exact same problem. I have tried uninstalling, repair,
installing the update manually etc. And everytime i get the same error
message that it doesnt have enought permission to access following
registry entry.

UNKNWON\.tiff\MSPaper.Document\ShellNew

and i have IE7 too but i dont remember changing anything with .tiff
when i was installing it.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Vivek
