Error Code:0x642 updateing .NET Framework 1.1

I had a major hard drive problem, that was resolved by repairing xp. After
installing xp, I did not deletye any files, just xp repair. I upgraded from
my xp sp2, to the sp3 package. I can install all the updates except .NET
framework. I get an error code:0x641. I found some references to registering
windows updats agent dll's, which I did sucessfully. I have Karpesky AV on my
system. I have tried to upgrade with Kaspersky disabled too, I get the same
error code. I never had a problem before, so I am sure it is connected to the
xp repair. I am sure I didn't power off before d/l and installed the sp3
package. The only reference to that error code was for another product and
it's resolution had nothing to do with my setup.
I am sure I need .NET Famework installed.

How can I get .NET Framework ? Any replies will be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi there, I have nothing in particular on that error code but perhaps you need to repair
framework. I say this as you said you had problems and resolved the same by repairing XP,
perhaps Framework became corrupted -

1. Write down what .NET Framework versions are already installed before you
go uninstalling/removing any of them!

I solved the problem.
My system slowly died, I did another XP repair. The XP cd I used had sp2
installed, but was old. Following the first repair, I went to Windows Update
and just dl and installed the SP3 update (60+megs). I did not notice the box
for updates if you do not want to install SP3 at this time. That's what
caused my XP SP2 to be out of sync with the windows installer and prevented
Framework 1.1 and higher to be sucessfully installed. Probably it caused
other problems too, because the pc died.
The second repair time I updated my XP SP2 with all its updates and
sucessfully installed Framework with XP SP2. I will install SP3 tomorrow. I
ran out of time today.

I got the email notification of responses to my thread. I could not connect
to the thread. I just got a blank windows window, with done in the lower left
corner. It took me quite a while to find my thread.

I posted the wrong error number in this threads title. It was Error
Code:0x641.
