Please try the steps suggested by Torgeir Bakken at the bottom of either
article since the issue is related to a Permissions issue with the
registry subkey that you cite.
It's OK to delete the randomly named folders created each time that
KB927978 attempts to install.
IF neither Torgeir's recommended steps nor the article allow the
installation of MSXML 4, then suggest you check the Permissions for
this registry key :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes
*Right* click it and choose Permissions
Under Group or user names, should be Everyone
The Permissions for Everyone should show as
Full Control
Read
If not, set them to be as so
Click Apply, OK
Restart the system and then manually download KB927978 from the links in
the article(s).
Save it, do NOT run it
Close the browser and any other open programs/apps
Now run msxml4-KB927978-enu.exe and it *should* install
Since KB927978 supercedes KB925672 there's no need to install the latter
update
