I have received the following 7 Automatic Windows Updates (even tried them
as manual updates) several times in the past 2 days (2-19 and 2-20-2007):

Office 2003 Update for Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter (KB924885)
Office 2003 Security Update for Office 2003 (KB929064)
Office 2003 Update for PowerPoint 2003 (KB929060)
Office 2003 Update for Office 2003 (KB925251)
Office 2003 Security Update for Word 2003 (KB929057)
Office 2003 Update for Excel 2003 (KB929058)
Office 2003 Security Update for Office 2003 (KB920813).

They download without a hitch, but never install correctly...all 7 updates
result in a "Failed" status with Error Code 0x80070643.

My entire system has been very slow and unstable since the repeated
downloads, even though they have not been installed. Anyone with a solution
on how to install these updates - I would GREATLY appreciate it!

I apologize for not providing the following information with my question
above: I am using Windows XP for Home with SP2 on a Compaq Presario Desktop
PC, 1 GB RAM, DSL connection, and use Oficce 2003 as my staple applications.
Thank you.

Do you use a registry cleaner? If so, you may want to undo changes made in
past couple of months OR see the following article on how to fix your
registry: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=884298

I recently began using a different registry cleaner, feeling the new
application was more throrough. Sounds like it may be too thorough! I will
read the article you recommended. Thx for the help!

I'm having the exact same problem! I'm running XP Pro. I've tried everything
except reinstalling Office 2003 and I'm not about to do that.

I do wish someone had an answer. I've wasted numerous hours trying to track
the problem down.

I couldn't agree with you more! I did finally email MS Support and they
responded back within a day with 2 pages of detailed instructions full of
"trial and error" processes to follow. The typical, "try step A, if that
won't allow the installs, try step B unless you got message 'xyz' in step A,
then try step D", where each step looks like a 30-60 minute commitment. The
support tech said "this problem will likely take considerable time to
resolve" and indicated the problems likely had to do with my PC, or even my
copy of Office 2003 being bad!

But in addition to you and I, I have seen several posts with the identical
complaint....so I feel the problem is likely a glitch on the MS side; I hope
they quickly release a new set of updates or a patch to make the installs
work, etc.

You may want to email MS Support. I can cut and paste the 2 pages of
instructions they gave me, but you may get more decisive results. If so,
please forward them if you don't mind. If I find my instructions work, I'll
pass them along to you. Good luck!

I got their tech support trial and error of things to try. I did them all
except reinstall Office and as I said before, since nothing else did anything
but waste a lot of time, I'm not going to try uninstalling and reinstalling
and waste another day.

10-4. Time is too valuable these days, and we shouldn't have to go on a
"scavenger hunt" to fix a problem that should have been caught before the
updates were sent out. Good luck!

I'm having the same problem except that none of the updates are being
installed. I've turned off my virus programs which I've never had to do. How
have people resolved this? I don't want to fool around with my registry.

HELP!
