When I try to install Windows XP updates, I get multiple error codes:

0x800736CC on Security Update for Windows XP (KB923191) (x14!)
0x80070002 on Security Update for Windows XP (KB908519)
0x80080008 on Update for Windows XP (KB900485)
0x80000004 on Security Update for Windows XP (KB927779)
0x80070002 on Security Update for Windows XP Security Update for Windows XP
(KB931784)

I've tried both the automatic updates and the updates from this very
website, and I just got this copy of XP on Monday evening. It's not a virus,
because I've checked for that. Possibly related to this is the fact that my
computer keeps randomly restarting on me - at least 50 times since Tuesday
evening. Help, anyone?

Hello Flami,

Doesn't hurt to try Dial-A-Fix first.

See if this thread helps.

<http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?&lang=en&cr=US&guid=&sloc=en-us&dg=microsoft.public.windowsupdate&p=1&tid=53d2a 78d-efb4-4397-ae0d-bfeeddd114e5&mid=53d2a78d-efb4-4397-ae0d-bfeeddd114e5>

Other folks may have additional ideas for you; hope this helps a bit.

Also look in Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update,
from Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a
Windows XP installation

Good luck

I'd worry more about that, personally.

Tip: Temporarily disable real-time protection by your anti-virus and/or
anti-spyware applications (e.g., CounterSpy, Spysweeper, Spybot Tea Timer,
AVG Anti-Spyware) and/or any third-party firewall (e.g., ZA) before
attempting to install the update(s). If you disable the third-party
firewall, make certain that you enable the Windows Firewall!
